The tools offered by new technologies are destined to become more than just a support for the traditional model of education.
Enhancing the development of learning through new digital tools has become the new objective of education.
Thanks to the rapid technological evolution of society, education is forced to adapt its traditional model to the new times.
The main idea is to turn ICT into an element that articulates education, rather than maintaining it as a complement to it.
The new times call for new ways of learning. The emergence of technology and the tools derived from it in the context of the digital transformation has meant that education needs to rethink its methods in order to adjust more to the new reality. New generations of digital natives are accustomed to immediacy and easy access to information. How can we make a difference and make education more attractive to them?
Precisely because digital has been part of their lives since birth and they are aware of how easy it is to find information, it is necessary to make the aim of education change and focus on the students themselves, rather than on the content. Involving them in their own education and enhancing their work in collaboration with others seems to be the way forward for the new educational model.
Fortunately, it has been the digital transformation that has provided some of the most appropriate tools for this new learning trend. Some of the characteristics of this new model of education are based on teaching a subject through complete immersion through technology, offering students a first-person experience that allows them to concentrate on discovering the contents through practice, to improve assimilation.
The efficiency of learning concepts, ideas or even historical facts in their own context makes immersive learning a good option for the future of education. Not only does it allow the student to be more active in his or her own learning, but it is also an intellectual stimulus for him or her and also enhances his or her ability to work as a team by creating learning dynamics together with other students.
Any subject can be learned through this immersive learning process, from learning historical facts to learning languages. The ability to retain the knowledge of these students is enhanced as it is a first-person experience.
The creation of environments for immersive education through video games augmented reality or 360º video experiences involves the incorporation of technology into education that makes it more than just a support tool. In this way, the learning process is enriched and so is the student himself, as it makes him/her capable of understanding abstract concepts that might otherwise be much more complex.
